Historical High Water Marks

This gatehouse was originally one of pair standing outside the Capitol building. Around 1872 it was moved to its current position near the mall. This is where the Tiber Creek once flowed.

Interestingly, if you look closely, you can see that high water marks are recorded on the building from floods in 1877 and 1881.
